The PROESA™ technology is the result of over 7 years of research conducted in our R&D centre of Rivalta Scrivia (Alessandria), which required a total investment of over 150 million Euro.

This technology started being developed in 2006. One of the most important stages of the project was the construction, in 2009, of the pilot plant of Rivalta Scrivia and the start of production in the first half of 2013 in Crescentino, the first commercial plant in the world for the production of cellulosic ethanol.The plant operates at industrial scale using wheat straw and other residual biomass.

Consequently, PROESA™ technology has been licensed in Brazil, China and Slovakia, and continues to be promoted as core of several international projects which are currently under development.
