Renewable Energies Emerge As Key Theme For COP 21

December 12th, 2015 will be remembered as a great day for the planet. During the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21/CMP11) from  November 30th to December 12th , it was recognized, with unanimous agreement from scientists, that the earth’s atmosphere is growing warmer due to greenhouse gas emissions generated by human activity. 187 countries published their action plan, in which each country sets out the way in which it intends to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. The so-called “Paris Agreement” will be open for signing on April 22nd, 2016 and confirms the target of keeping the rise in temperature below 2°C.
In this fundamental effort, renewable energies take the “pride of place”. The most advanced economies have already included renewables in their energy mix and have planned to increase their use in order to meet their mitigation goals: Japan aims to derive 22-24% of its electricity production from renewable sources by 2030 and the European Union plans for them to reach 27% of its final energy consumption.
